Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin adapts Volumes 9-12 of the original manga, chronicling the events leading up to the main story, including the transformation of the Autonomous Republic of Munzo into the Principality of Zeon following the death of Zeon Zum Deikun, Casval Rem Deikun and Artesia Som Deikun's lives after escaping from Side 3, the development of the first mobile suits, the backstory of the White Base crew, and the first battles of the One Year War.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin
The plot of the manga follows somewhat closely to the plot of the original series. It is the year Universal Century 0079, and the eighth month of a vicious war between the Earth Federation and a breakaway nation of space colonists, the Principality of Zeon. The story follows the crew of the warship White Base, as they fight to ferry the experimental RX-78-02 Gundam mobile suit to the Federation base at Jaburo.
Yasuhiko further finally tells the entire back story of the Gundam universe in the manga. After the successful defense of Jaburo, the story diverts into a very in-depth flashback, told primarily from the viewpoints of Sayla and Char (with a secondary thread being told from Amuro's POV) recounting the downfall of Zeon Zum Deikun, the rise of the Zabi family, the construction of Side 7 and the research into mobile suits, and leading up through a decade until the launching of the One Year War. It also goes into detail answering many previously unanswered questions such as the appearance of heretofore unseen Zeon mobile suits prior to the MS-05 Zaku I, how Dozle Zabi received his trademark scars and even the origin of Casval Deikun/Edward Mass' "Char Aznable" identity. Volume fourteen, deals with the Battle of Loum at the beginning of the One Year War, and is the last piece of the in-depth flashback.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin is an adaptation of the Yoshikazu Yasuhiko manga of the same name which depicts an alternate Universal Century timeline with many significant differences from the original continuity used by the original Mobile Suit Gundam and its sequels/prequels (most notably Federation mobile suits existing prior to the last four months of the One Year War). The particular issues adapted are a prequel showing how the Universal Century's antagonist turned hero turned antagonist Casval Rem Deikun took the alias Char Aznable and began his decade long plot for revenge against the Zabi family.
The tragic story of Char Aznable, the ace pilot known as the Red Comet, and his sister Sayla Mass unfolds against the backdrop of the events leading to the One Year War, centering around the childhood and early adulthood of Char. The Zabi family's rise to power, the birth of the Principality of Zeon, the early days of famous aces such as Ramba Ral and the Black Tri-Stars, the development of the revolutionary new weapon known as the mobile suit, and the road to war against the Earth Federation are all depicted onscreen for the first time.
It is the year Universal Century 0079. The Earth Federation is storing and testing a new piloted robot for use in the battle against the Principality of Zeon in a space colony. The experimental RX-78 Gundam mobile suit is scheduled to be transported to Federation command in Jaburo, deep within the Brazilian jungles. Unfortunately, before the transporter arrives the Federation is attacked. With few resources available against the Zeon's most mobile mechs, Federation forces strike back using their new weapon, the mobile suit Gundam. 041b061a72
